the kitchen (more than you ever wanted to see)...

I finally took some pictures this afternoon of our almost completed kitchen. A few minor things as well as a backsplash will complete this project.

kitchen sneek peak

It is definitely coming along. We do have counter tops (not shown)but are still waiting on some cabinet doors, a wine cabinet and the door hardware.

arrrgh matey!

Thursday was pirate day at school. The second graders dressed up as pirates, tasted sardines (Aiden liked them!) and had a treasure hunt for gold. Pardon Aiden's face paint I feel horribly inadequate when it comes to make up!

apple picking

Saturday we were surprised with some afternoon sunny weather so we headed out to the apple orchard after soccer. We ran into some friends(pre arranged) and the kids had a great time apple picking, apple smashing (only the ones already on the ground) playing in the wheelbarrows and fighting over who would pull the wagon. I got almost 50 pounds of apples to christen my new kitchen. Which should hopefully be done my the end of the week!

Oh Susan, you're not lazy...

in fact you're quite fabulous! My new lazy (actually it's called a super) Susan is my new favorite part of the kitchen remodel. It fits all my canned goods from the basement pantry and has room for all the rice, grains, cereal and pasta with room to spare. Swoon.

fall to do list

I am just starting to think of fall which means I should probably put the 'July 4th' decor away at the front door. Of course I have a very legitimate excuse this year but it would also be nice for things to feel a little more normal.
-[put summer decor] and clothing away
-climb ladder and dig through the garage for our fall decorations (this type of thing used to be Dale's job but I'm adjusting (sort of)
-move into our new kitchen and cook yummy food
-trip to the pumpkin patch (Stoney Ridge I love you)
-[apple picking] 48.5 pounds!
-date night with Dale (not that we haven't spent every day of the past six weeks together but it still would be nice)
-complete some crafty projects
-trip to the Aquarium (no we still haven't gone since buying an annual membership)
-maybe possibly a girls week end in Seattle
-pumpkin pie, pumpkin bread, pumpkin waffles and apple cider
-fall yard clean up
-create fairy and [ninja] (bought) costumes for Halloween
-fall leaf walk with Dale and the kids (hopefully sans crutches/wheelchair)

remodel sneak peek

hello second grade

Aiden was so excited to return to school this year! I am sure it had something to do with us feeling like summer ended the first week of August. He has the new teacher in the school this year and everything seems to be going well. Aiden loves having his best buddy in the same classroom for the first time. I am still adjusting to the new school schedule. Start time of 9:30 makes me feel like we wait 2 hours for school to start and then dismissal at 3:30 makes the afternoon disappear.

lego mania

A wonderful surprise arrived in the mail a few weeks ago. A 1400 piece Star Wars Lego spaceship. I don't know if was more for Dale or Aiden but they both enjoyed putting it together. It took most of Labor Day week end and now it has a spot on Aiden's bookcase where it dwarfs all the other Lego creations!
