the letterman show
A few days before we left for our trip we found out we had tickets for Letterman. Last time we were in New York we failed the trivia portion and were denied tickets. Luckily Dale had a correct answer this time. We went to pick up our tickets the day of the show after our tour of Liberty Island. When we received our tickets we were told to stand aside from the group of people we had been standing with. They told the group what time to come back for the taping of the show and then a guy took Dale and I outside. Once outside he told us we had been hand selected "because of your dazzling smiles" while waiting in line. I was terrified we were going to be interviewed on the street (and not know the answer) or have do some crazy stunt. All I could think of how gross I looked after schlepping around the statue and lower Manhattan for the last 8 hours. Dale offered to take me shopping for a new outfit or make up but I opted for a few glasses of liquid courage from Serafina instead. When we returned to the theatre we found out all our 'VIP' status meant is we (along with 30 other people) got to sit in the front two rows of the show, use the restroom before the show, promise not to chew gum, we had to clap and cheer loudly. It was really fun we saw Rainn Wilson from the Office and the rest of the guests I didn't know. The show we were at aired last Friday and you can see Dale and I when the camera sweeps the audience. That probably was my 5 minutes of fame.

just got back
from the doctors. Amelia has pink eye and Aiden has an ear infection. Hopefully after tomorrow we will be healthy and able to see our friends :) I feel so antisocial and sleep deprived.
statue of liberty

I'm not sure where to begin exactly so I'll just jump right into the middle of our trip. Dale was really excited to go and see the Statue of Liberty this trip. Me not so much. I'm not a huge American history person (maybe it has something to with going to school in Canada) beaver pelts and Cabot is more my style (just kidding). But marriage is about compromise. We took the early train into the city and found that there where no tickets available to go inside the monument that day. Dale worked his tourist magic and we were able to get reserve tickets and go inside the monument and skip the first waiting line. Less than 1% of people are able to get crown tickets and I think Dale wasn't satisfied until he heard that fact. It was interesting and I'm glad I went but we didn't take the kids this time. I think we waited a total of 2 plus hours in lines and security checks that day and it was enough for adults I can't imagine doing it with kids.

home.sweet.home.
We arrived home late last night. I've needed a full day just to get adjusted to the time change, clothes unpacked and groceries bought. Hopefully tomorrow I can start posting some pics from our trip. We had a great time!

ghetto jet
Our flight was interesting. It started at 2:30am when we pulled ourselves and kids out of bed to drive to the airport. We realized at the last minute that our flight was actually with another airline due to 'co sharing' airlines. When we found our plane seats we were the very last row on the plane. Dale took the higher road and sat btwn the kids in one row and I sat across the aisle from them. The woman I sat beside looked genuinely displeased to have me sitting beside her. The plane was old. It had a funky smell, dirty seats and the old school tv monitors hanging from the ceiling for the on flight movie. After take off they realized the sound was broken so there was no movie. Amelia spit her gum on the seat before take off. We also had a constant stream of strangers standing uncomfortably close while waiting in line for the bathroom. There was only one of the three bathrooms in operation. Like I said - ghetto jet. The final touch to the flight was Amelia bumped Dale and spilled cranberry juice all over Dale's crotch and he was wearing khaki pants. When we arrived at JFK Dale's sister was in a completely different terminal expecting us to arrive on another airline. We had no cell phones to try and contact her. Finally Dale got a hold of her on a strangers cell phone. An hour later we were on the road!
